The Valley echoed

The breathtakingly beautiful valley, fondly called mini Switzerland, and the majestic snow-clad mountains were as still as stone. The silence was so palpable that one could almost touch it. Just minutes before, the place was ringing with peals of laughter of the teeming, merry making tourists. It was all over in seconds. The gunmen materialized out of nowhere and mowed down the unsuspecting innocent people. 26 lives were lost all at once. These killers singled out the men for reasons known only to them and sent them off to the other world right in front of their women folk. As the news trickled in, a shocked and horror struck Nation looked on helplessly. 'Why?' was the burning question. 'Why this senseless killing of poor unarmed civilians?' As footage of the bodies of the victims being brought home and other scenes of the unprecedented tragedy was aired on national Television, the anger reached fever pitch and was exploding. The feeling that something must be done, and at once, was manifested in the vociferous shout outs on social media platforms. Our elected leaders cancelled all other official and personal engagements and holed up to find a solution to the hottest potato on their plate. The entire country has united against a foe believed to be the instigator of such attacks. Our Defence forces have been given the green signal to do the needful to bring the enemy to heel. Though our priority is definitely to avenge spilled blood, there is also a need to make sure that such incidents never occur again. For this we might have to go the extra mile to convince the enemy that we mean business
